Indieface Quicky: Violens

Just found this new album from Violens, TRUE. Can’t. Stop. Listening. Since this NYC psych-pop, indie rock outfit with shoegaze tendencies got their name from combining “violins” and “violence” together, you would expect them to produce a noise similar to orchestral movements meeting clashing sounds, and in the non-literal sense, they do. See for yourself what the fuss is about. Recommended highly for chilled out nights.

Let’s not forget about the time that Adam Yauch pulled the original “Kanye” at the VMAs (start watching around 2:30).

RIP the man who “had all the ideas for Star Wars.”

The hype is deserved. Alabama Shakes are just different enough to stand out, just similar enough to draw worthy comparisons to past R&B/Soul greats. Worth a listen.

Oh Merrill, you’ve done it again. Wonderfulness in the form of a music video. Please to enjoy.

When I got to her house, she said, ‘I’ve never taken acid, so I can’t sing about that stuff.’ She’s done lots of other drugs, but not acid. So she was like, ‘Why don’t we do some acid, and then I can sing about it.’ She told her assistant, ‘Go get us some acid.’ Her assistant would’ve just ran out and got everybody a bunch of acid— how great is that? But we didn’t, because I was like, ‘Listen lady, I’m not going to do a bunch of acid with you tonight, because we have to record.’ Plus, I didn’t really want her to. The way she is, it’s as though she’s on acid already.
